- Outdoor antenna (repeats the signal) can be installed outdoors above the roofline or indoors in the attic or near a window
- Coax cable (RG6- ultra low-loss, DBS satellite) connects from the outdoor antenna to the base unit
- Base unit: Sleekly designed, it amplifies the signal and provides oscillation detection/correction which protects the carrier network using patent-pending technology.
- Indoor antenna connects to the base unit to repeat the signal and create "Cell Zone"--no physical connection to the phone is needed.
Installation
Choosing the best location for installation of the Signal Antenna provides the best performance and the largest area of improved signal. Determine the location that provides the strongest signal using the signal strength indicator on your cell phone. For the best reception, find the location that provides the most bars of signal strength and locate the Signal Antenna at that location.

Will the Wi-Ex YX500-PCS or the YX500-CEL unit work with any wireless service?
The Wi-Ex YX500-PCS unit will work only in the PCS frequency range (1850 â€" 1990 MHz), and the Wi-Ex YX500-CEL will only work in the Cellular frequency range (824 â€" 896 MHz).
Cell phones from providers like Cricket, Metro PCS, Suncom, T-Mobile, and Sprint (excludes Nextel) normally work with our YX500-PCS model, and cell phones from providers like AT&T and Verizon will normally work with the YX500-CEL model. Most of the wireless phones in use today are in the PCS or the Cellular frequencies. Some wireless service providers are PCS only while others will operate in the Cellular and PCS frequencies. This varies from city to city. If your service provider shows both 800 and 1900 MHz the YX500-CEL will probably work. If your service provider shows only the 1900MHz, the YX500-PCS booster will work.
Little to no improvement in signal despite multiple antenna locations (2008-12-15)
We have AT&T and live in a low spot. Reception is fine at the top of the driveway, but not so great in the house.
I tried mounting the antenna inside the house, in the attic, and on the roof. the extender recognized our phones and showed that everything was working, but I saw no improvement in signal on either phone. Standing on the roof, i could get a good signal with my phone, but the antenna mounted in the same location didn't give me the same results inside.
I really wanted this to work. It didn't for me. Seems like this product either works very well for you, or not at all.
Great Product (2008-12-12)
I have used this product in several installations where cell signal is low or medium with drop our areas, including deep in a basement where there was no signal at all. After installation the basement now has 5 bars of signal and it is flawless. Only thing to be careful of is when choosing your device buy the one that matches your cell phone provider and I think NEXTEL IS NOT supported by any of the models.
May work somewhere but not here. (2008-12-12)
I'd have to start by saying the customer service for the product is wonderful. They were able to clarify installation directions (base unit and exterior antannae have to be 15 VERTICAL FEET apart, not just 15 feet apart). Unfortunately we don't get a consistent enough signal to gauge if the product works. Once we got everything installed we had full signal but it would bounce around from Analog to Digital Roam to something else. Each time it would change (5-15 seconds), all signal would drop completely. Even when the signal held we couldn't receive or make calls. We are really disappointed. Our land line is ancient and not a day goes by when it works the whole day through. We were hoping this product would allow us to drop our land line and be completely cellular.
Works exactly as advertised (2008-12-03)
This devise is not a perfect panacea. If you don't have a signal anywhere in the vicinity that you plan to set up the booster, don't bother. It can't boost a signal which isn't there. Outside my house I had two bars on my phone and inside I would occasionally get a bar, but it wasn't strong enough to call or receive calls. I installed the antennae in the attic, and then fed the cable through the same wall that the TV cable runs through. You have to separate the antennae from the base by at least 15 feet or you will generate interference, and the higher the antennae, the better. I now have two bars inside. Simple and easy and worth the money.
Poor description! (2008-12-01)
Recently purchased this product and did not know that it has an external antenna that needs to be installed somewhere outside of the apartment/house. Since my apartment is small i didn't know that the device needed an additional 15 feet distance from antenna to device. I was disappointed to find that i was not informed of this when i purchased the item.
