Canon Technology Maximizes Quality and Performance
Genuine Canon Face Detection Technology sets the focus, exposure, and flash automatically, leaving you free to compose a group, capture an unguarded moment, or coax the perfect smile. Plus the new Face Selector Button lets you select the primary face.
DIGIC III features Face Detection technologies, giving the you best possible results in any shooting situation. Face Detection AF/AE sets the focus point and exposure for the faces of your subjects. Face Detection FE adjusts the flash to correctly illuminate your subject to provide the best balance between your subject and the overall scene, eliminating the common problems of over- and underexposed faces.
Red-eye correction detects and corrects red-eye during playback. In unusual cases where red-eye is not automatically detected, it can easily be corrected manually during playback mode.
And new Face Selector AF enables you to lock on and follow a specific face. The selected subject is tracked wherever the face moves in the frame. Simply press the Face Selector Button; then the selected face is double-framed and tracked when the face moves in the frame.
Life doesn't give you second chances to capture special times. That's why the PowerShot SX100IS features ISO 1600 and High ISO Auto settings that reduce the effects of camera shake and sharpen subjects in low-light situations, giving you greater shooting flexibility.

Gave shutter problem after 1 year of use
I had the camera for about 1 year after which it's shutter stopped opening fully. Sometime it will open half or sometime not at all. I searched web about the issue and it seems that it is known issues in canon models.

Hardware failures
I received this camera as a gift in 2007. Like other reviewers, I experienced a lens opening failure. The lens cap would not open all the way. It cost 0 and about 6 weeks to get repaired. I got it back and the USB connection is dead. I have to use an external card reader to retrieve photos.

Great, for a while...
I received this camera for my anniversary from my husband. I loved how easy it was to use and the picture quality. Unfortunately, a year and a half after purchase, I got the fatal "lens error". This effectively means the camera is dead and can only be repaired by Canon for . For such an expensive product, it should have a much longer life. I will not be buying Canon cameras again, which is sad because I loved this one and the previous Canon camera I owned (which is still going strong, despite being around 7 years old).

Only good for video
I have had this camera more than 2 years and I continue to be disappointed. It is good outdoors and for Video but indoors it is just bad. Don't use the flash and your pictures have a 50 50 chance of turning out. Use the flash and it is ungodly slow. I have had 100 dollar cameras that warm up quicker. I will keep this camera for videos and buy another for photos. I miss out on way to many photos waiting on this camera flash to be ready or just to warm up for the next photo. I tried several different sd cards thinking it was slow because of them but it has made no difference. I read here that people like how small it is. It is not that small.
Pros for me
Good outdoor photos
Good video clips
AA batteries(use enerloops)
Cons
SLOOOOOOW
bad indoor photos
kind of bulky

Good camera
I've had this camera for about a year and I still like it. Sure it burns through the batteries, but most auto-zoom /auto-focus cameras do. The solution is called: rechargeable batteries.
The 10x-zoom on this camera and the macro feature is what sold me. Shots from long distances and close up shots look pretty good plus it has manual photo settings and a built-in video camera. It's not bad for an 8 mega-pixel but now you can get a 14 to 16 mega-pixel pretty cheap. As fast technology is moving I pretty much figured this was going to be an obsolete camera within a few years after I bought it.
