The Allerair 5000 Vocarb Air Purifier Does Its Job

I purchased the air purifier first because I have allergic rhinitis and second to keep the smell of cigarette smoke out of the house. My husband always smokes his cigarettes in the balcony, but you still can’t keep some of the smoke from entering through the windows. I didn’t want my children to be exposed to second-hand smoke, so I thought installing an air filter would be a good idea.

We installed the AllerAir 5000 in the living room. It’s a good thing we live in a semi-detached house, so it’s good that we didn’t have to carry this air filter up any stairs. It’s quite heavy (44 pounds), and at first we wanted to put it in the children’s playroom, but then we changed our minds because, again, it’s pretty heavy and I wouldn’t want moving it to different rooms frequently. So we settled for the living room. This is good, because the balcony where my husband goes for a smoke is adjacent to the living room windows which we keep open a lot of times. My husband can’t quit his smoking and I’ve been worried for the longest time that my children would eventually end up with complications from second-hand smoke. Before we got the AllerAir 5000, the living room and the kitchen would smell of smoke, especially on weekends. With the filter installed, I won’t have to worry about my children getting sick from passive smoking.

Another thing that I like about the AllerAir 5000 is that it captures the particles such as dust that trigger my allergy whenever I clean the house (especially the living room). I’ve always hated dusting our furniture and other stuff like books, figurines, etc. but I felt that a vacuum didn’t get the job done so there was no way I could avoid dusting up the furniture. Now, with the AllerAir 5000, I won’t get irritated by dust particles anymore. It’s tough having an allergy to dust because once an allergic reaction has started, the runny and itch nose plus the sneezing will stay for hours, and I think that because of that, the air filter has now become an indispensable gadget in our household.

Now to the specs. Aside from its enormous weight, there’s not really much to fret about. Well, it can be very noisy if you put it on high-speed, but we don’t, so the filter’s noise doesn’t bug us much. It’s just like having a low-noise air conditioner running in your room. The manual says that the AllerAir 5000 is recommended for use in rooms of 1500 square feet maximum, but I think it’s better if you used it in a smaller room, a 1500-square foot room would be too big and you couldn’t maximize the powers of the filter (or you’d have to set it on high-speed, which, like I said, could be pretty noisy).

Altogether, I think the AllerAir 5000 Vocarb Air Purifier is a good investment and is definitely worth what I paid for. I’m thinking of getting another one next year since my kids are now begging for pet birds for Christmas.
