Amazon.com Review:
Connect 4 x 4 is similar to the classic original, but now you can play with up to four people, and the double-sided grid adds greater complexity and more chances to win. Designed for ages eight and up, Connect 4 x 4 may have doubled the challenge, the amount of players, and the grid--but the fun and scoring are still the same: four in a row and you win!

The Good: Up to four people can play Connect 4 x 4; features new colors and helpful blockers.

The Challenging: Younger children may need pointers on the double-sided grid when first playing.

In a Nutshell: Fun remake of a favorite game with added challenge and complexity.

Double-sided Grid, More Colors, New Pieces
Connect 4 x 4 is the only checkers four-in-a-row, four-player game--making it perfect for family game nights. With the new double-sided grid, you can score on both the front and back side of the game.

Game play is simple--pick a line, drop a checker in on each turn, and hope that your opponents don't foil your strategy before you get four checkers in a row! The game has also added "blockers," which can be used to block your opponents on both sides of the grid in one turn. However, make sure to save your blockers for when you really need them--you only get two and they are valuable!

When you're finished playing Connect 4 x 4, a convenient locking top slide keeps the pieces on the grid so you never have to worry about lost checkers.

Challenging Remake of a Timeless Favorite
If you grew up playing Connect 4, you'll quickly realize that Connect 4 x 4 is like having both an old favorite and a new game all in one. You can still play the game with two players, but now also have the option of playing with four. The double-sided grid adds a welcome challenge and complexity for long-time Connect 4 players. A word of warning for younger players: the added complexity may be a bit challenging to understand at first, but once they do, they'll definitely be hooked.

What's in the Box

Very different from the original...
and WAY more fun!!

It took us awhile to figure it out but we've all gotten the hang of thinking in 4x4 - the only drawback is that there are SO many pieces & that they are round, lots to pick up if the 3-yr old is playing. (I just found a few pieces under the couch)

Super Duper Fun!
We love this new version of Connect 4! It is much easier to be "sneaky" with your strategy as there are more avenues to win. Much more durable than the original version and we love the "blocking" pieces! My kids surely have to use the character quality of "alertness" if they are going to beat anyone in this game (especially me!)

Devious! Adults will love it, too!
There are no young children in our family, so we only play with adults, and it is still enjoyable. In fact, we were surprised it was marketed to children. There are only two ways to win:

1) Other players are careless and fail to block you.
2) You set yourself up in such a way that no matter what the next three people try to do, you will still win.

Of course, careless wins earn you no bragging rights, so we all work towards ruthlessly forcing everyone's hands in order to leave us free to connect four. The dynamics of trying to keep track of 4 people's devious plans are enough to keep any strategist challenged. You are caught between trying to forward your own agenda and blocking others. Politics are involved when you cannot do it alone and must enlist the help of other players.

There is much evil laughter, fist shaking, and general enjoyment going around when we play. If you like the sound of that, you will love this variant to Connect 4.

Connect 4x4 a real brain and eye tester
If you enjoy connect 4 then this new version is sure to up the ante. My 8 year old daughter keeps winning, most of the time I keep forgetting that you can worm and weave to win, but I am catching on. With 2 players it is good fun but with 4 players the eyes begin to play tricks and you really have to zone in on the game to come out winning. Good game keeps you sharp with more winning options. My only fault is not with the game itself but storage for the game when not in use, the slide latches at the top and bottom don't grip very tightly and if bounced during storage or just walking around will shift and all the play pieces come falling out. A box for storage like the original connect 4 would help greatly here. I recommend this game highly to add to your table game collection.

Challenging
We have always played the original Connect Four game, and this really adds a challenging dimension. Really fun to play with 3 to 4 people, makes it fun trying to watch for all of the possibilies to block etc... great for family game night.
